Autonomous cars will depend on extensive data supplied by LiDAR and other sensors carefully integrated into the vehicle, not bolted on like today’s research vehicles. Also, data-rich 3D maps and an understanding of the correlation of current and intended location is far beyond a local search on a cell-phone when lives are at stake.
